Photon One Solar Powered Motor for Luxaflex® Evo Awnings

Take energy efficiency to a whole new level in your home by harnessing the power of the sun with the Photon One Solar Powered Motor for Luxaflex® Evo Awnings. 88% of a home’s heat gain in summer occurs through the windows and for the first time a truly energy efficient solution is now available.

The Photon One solar motor awning is powered by a 24v DC battery that recharges through sun light. This means no wired technology is needed to operate it because the built in battery pack recharges from the sun. As little as 2-3 hours of direct sunlight is required to charge the battery for enough power for several day's operation.

The motor’s simple integrated design features a discreet solar panel which can be angled for maximum energy collection, which can vary from one home to the next. What’s more, it requires no costly electrician to install.

Suitable for use with straight drop awnings, the solar-powered motor is ideally used with the entire Luxaflex® Evo Awnings Range.

Selling Houses Australia – Lord Karl and Lady Bess’ Medieval Mess

The LifeStyle Channel’s Selling Houses Australia Episode 4 Season 8

The Story: Lord Karl and Lady Bess are mad for everything medieval. They live, eat, breathe the days gone by, leaving little time for the real world. Their house, in the Sydney suburb of St Marys, is packed to the gunnels with medieval mess and unfinished renovations. They desperately need to sell and thought advertising on social media would do the job. Luckily, they have Sir Winter and his trusty knights to save the day.

The Problem: The median price in St. Marys is $300,000 less than the greater Sydney area. This means that it is actually a fantastic place for investors. Houses seem to be snapped up very quickly in the area, except for Karl and Bess’ home. This home has been a dumping ground for the busy parents who work from home. The house was full of clutter, without any functional living space, and the kitchen, a half-finished job. The outside of the home was a complete buyer let down, where the backyard has an ugly landscape.

The Solution: Transform the home from tip, to tip-top. A massive de-clutter, and functional storage was created throughout the home. The drab looking fabric curtains inside the home were replaced with Luxaflex® Wood Essence Venetians and Roller Blinds (Waratah fabric in the colour Bounty).

Wood Essence Venetians provide the look of real wood combined with the quality and durability of advanced technology that is resistant to discolouration and warping. They are perfect for high humidity areas, where regular timber venetians would be unsuitable – perfect for the Australian climate. Whether you want privacy or to allow filtered light through, Wood Essence Venetians give you complete control over the amount of light you let into the room.

The old run-down window awning of the home was replaced with the Luxaflex® Canopy Awning. The Canopy Awning were placed over the windows, and are a great way of providing weather protection to the home, but also gives your window a sense of identity and decoration. Luxaflex® Canopy Awnings are made from rust-free extruded and die-cast aluminium, and the plastic components contain ultraviolet radiation stabilised polymers, therefore are long lasting and low maintenance.

All Luxaflex® Window Coverings were supplied and installed by Luxaflex® Gallery dealer Image Carpets & Blinds in Emu Plains, NSW.

Interior Design Insights: Top 5 Reasons to Love Paris

Written by Lynn Malone, exclusively for Luxaflex.

From Frank Sinatra’s rendition to Lana Del Ray late last year, generations have crooned the 1953 Cole Porter hit tune, I Love Paris, expressing a year-round love affair with the French capital. With over 32 million visitors last year to to Paris (hint: drop the ‘s’ if you want to speak Parisian) it attracts visitors like bees to honey. What are the magical ingredients that result in Paris to consistently rank as the number one holiday destination?

A trip to Paris is on most of our travel wish lists.  Here is your chance to win a dream come true! Enter the competition before 30th May 2014, and you and a friend could win the Ultimate Paris Fashion Experience, courtesy of Luxaflex Window Fashions. Visit www.luxaflex60.com.au for all the details.

Eiffel Tower view from The Peninsula Palace

After spending 5 days in Paris, I have an inkling of enlightenment that makes me want to go back for more. Here are my top five reasons that I Love Paris and why I believe you will too!

Food and Wine:  Another glass of champagne, s'il vous plaît (if you please)
Locally sourced ingredients, freshly baked baguettes, bagels and croissants; and handmade everything – all terms of endearment for food and wine lovers. One observation:  I did not see one person in the streets carrying a take-away coffee. What I did see was café after café packed with patrons engrossed in conversation over a morning cuppa. How civilized!

Keeping Paris well stocked in fine champagne are the ancient villages surrounding Reims, a scenic 129 kilometre drive from the city centre and home to Grandes Marques of Champagne and the world’s crème de la crème champagne houses.

From small bistros to Michelin star restaurants, the French take their food seriously. One of my most memorable meals was at Mamie Gateaux tearoom.  It's best to arrive when the doors open at 11:30am, as it only takes fifteen minutes for the locals to fill the tables. The daily chalkboard menu offers a section of savouries such as seasonal quiches and soups; and sweets for the sweets – pastries and cakes – until sold out.

Parisians are the best
So you don’t speak fluent French, simply learning key phrases such as please and thank you; good morning and good evening; is advantageous in navigating the language barrier. Attempting to communicate in French goes a long way and I They are gracious hosts who cordially welcome visitors to the City of Light.

Window displays spare no expense trying to entice... ...But window shopping is still free!
Many of the world's best know luxury brands have their headquarters in Paris – the Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Christian Dior stores are fabulous, with the latest trends as expected. The stand out for me were the extravagantly dressed display windows, particularly the Louis Vuitton flagship store. Paris has something for one and all. There are emerging designers’ basement shops with wares fresh from the cutting tables at pre-famous prices, through to pre-loved and vintage luxury brands as well as fashion-forward couture.

Tight quarters inspire design creativity
In Paris each square metre is at a premium and the lack of space is often the impetus for cleverly designed interiors, particularly when it comes to hotel guest rooms, from boutique hotels with 10 guest rooms through to re-purposed palaces with 200, conceptual design is inspirational.

Selling Houses Australia – 70’s Penthouse

The Lifestyle Channel's Selling Houses Australia Episode 8

DARWIN - 70's Penthouse

OVERVIEW: A selfless act can sometimes get in the way of a smart one. Bob purchased properties to help his friends and family get out of debt, but ironically he became the one up to his eyeballs in mortgage bills. His solution - to sell his not-so-luxurious 70's style penthouse apartment.

PROBLEM: In order to bring the penthouse up to scratch, the interior needed a complete overhaul. The top-floor penthouse had no protection from the hot Darwin weather and bot the interiors and exteriors needed a 'wow' factor befitting its penthouse status.

SOLUTION: To protect the penthouse from heat and glare, Luxaflex Evo Awnings in Everscreen fabric in colour 'Shale' were installed outside to replace the old fashioned awnings. Luxaflex Dual Roller Blinds in blockout Caspien fabric in colour 'Linen' and Greenscreen fabric in colour 'White' were used internally to further protect the home from heat and glare. The blinds used both Patented EDGE and Qmotion motorisation technology to give it a modern feel and add that extra 'wow' factor.

HOW IT WORKS: Luxaflex Evo Awnings are made specifically for  Australian weather conditions. The straight drop Evo Awning option can be used to shield the indoors from extreme heat and glare. Evo Awnings come in five different options, each available in various fabric options including the EverScreen External Screen Fabric, which provides heat and glare reduction as well as UV protection.

Luxaflex Dual Roller Blinds work by mounting two blinds on one set of brackets, allowing you to combine the functionality of two different fabrics in the one roller blind. This not only offers flexible light adjustment, but also day and night time privacy in the one application.

Dual Roller Blinds are easy to operate and suitable for windows of all shapes and sizes. Availale with innovative Patented EDGE (Ergonomically Designed with Greater Efficiency) and Qmotion technology. Luxaflex Dual Roller Blinds come in a range of operating systems, including chain, crank or motorised and can be operated with a remote device such as an iPhone or an iPad.

For this particular project, the revolutionary Roller Blinds with Omotion technology added the 'wow' factor to the windows. They system uses regular D cell batteries that last for five years, an industry first. As an added bonus, you won't find a blind with a smaller light gap. Operation is via remote control, or manual pull for when the remote is not within reach.
